The pupil of our eye adapts to light, expanding and contracting to help us perceive the world around us. Chameleons change color, blending with the surfaces they crawl over to ensure their survival. How many surfaces do we, as humans, navigate and adapt to each day?
Our lives are a continuous interplay of social contexts and environments where we act, react, belong, deviate, compromise, influence, and ultimately adapt. This piece explores the tension between belonging and individuality—the urge to connect, the pressure to conform, and the moments we choose to stand apart. When does the need to belong outweigh our desire to stand out, and how do we preserve our individuality within a collective?
